1. The Short Version

SpeedReadTest has no accounts or ads, and its only analytics are cookieless page counts. Most of what you do here stays in your browser. Information reaches our servers in only one case: when you choose to submit a score to the public leaderboard. Like any website, our hosting provider also handles basic connection data, such as your IP address, when your browser loads a page.

2. Text and Files You Add

Text you paste and files you open in our tools are processed in your browser. We do not upload, log or store them. If you use the custom text option in the speed test, any quiz is generated on your device, using your browser's built-in AI where available.

3. Information Saved in Your Browser

We use your browser's local storage to save the following on your device:

  • Your test history and scores
  • Your 30-day challenge progress and any name you add to your certificate
  • Your place in the last file you opened in the reading pacer
  • Your theme, font, font size and sound settings
  • The nickname and country you last used on the leaderboard form
  • Text passed between our tools during a visit, which is cleared when you close the tab

Our service worker can also save copies of pages for offline use. None of this is sent to us, except the leaderboard details described below. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. If you download a backup file, it holds your test history and 30-day challenge progress, including any certificate name. It goes straight to your device and restoring it happens in your browser, so we never see it.

4. Optional Public Leaderboard

Submitting a score is your choice. If you do, your browser sends your nickname, country flag, WPM, comprehension percentage, passage word count, reading time, start time, and the level and title of the passage.

We use these details to check the score. We then store and publicly display your nickname, country flag, Effective Reading Speed, WPM, comprehension percentage, passage level and title, and the date. Please do not use your real name or any other personal information as your nickname.

Today's board is deleted about 7 days after its last entry. Entries on the all-time board stay until they are removed. To remove an entry, email us the nickname, score and date. There are no accounts, so we may ask for details that help us find the right entry.

5. IP Addresses

When a score is submitted, we use your IP address to limit submissions to 5 every 10 minutes. It is held in a temporary counter that expires after 10 minutes, and it is not saved with your score. We use it only to protect the leaderboard from spam and abuse.

6. Service Providers

  • Cloudflare hosts the site, delivers its pages, provides security and runs Cloudflare Web Analytics. It handles connection data such as IP addresses.
  • Upstash hosts the leaderboard database and the temporary counter described above.

These providers may process data outside your country. We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

7. Cookies and Analytics

We do not set any cookies of our own, and we do not use advertising tools. To count visits we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, does not use local storage and does not track you across sites. It records which pages are viewed, where visitors came from, and the type of browser, device and country, and shows us only totals, not individual visitors. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie. If this changes, we will update this page first.

8. Your Choices and Rights

You can use the site without submitting anything. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. To make a request, email research@speedreadtest.com.

We publish leaderboard entries because you ask us to. We use IP addresses for rate limiting because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site free of abuse.

9. Children

SpeedReadTest is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Children under 13, or under the minimum age in their country, should not submit to the leaderboard without help from a parent or guardian. If you think a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

10. Changes and Contact

We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. If you have a question about your privacy, write to research@speedreadtest.com or use our contact page.
